Mini-Biography

Tao received his B.S. in Chemistry from Nanjing University in 2016. As an undergraduate, he also spent one semester in Sweden as an Erasmus exchange student. Tao then moved to the U.S. and completed his Ph.D. with Joseph E. Subotnik at the University of Pennsylvania in 2021. During his Ph.D., Tao developed analytical and numerical approaches for weak and strong light-matter interactions. After his Ph.D., Tao worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Sharon Hammes-Schiffer at Yale University, studying nuclear quantum effects through multicomponent electronic structure theory.

In January 2024, Tao joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware as an Assistant Professor.

Outside research, Tao enjoys hiking and The Legend of Zelda games.
